Art Cunundrums!
The Mona Lisa!...question's.Firstly...why is she wearing a hairnet?...they weren't even invented then!.
Secondly...what do you suppose she's thinking about?.
Thirdly...why did Da Vinci set the painting set against a volcanic background?.
...and finally...what the HELL is that 'Lightening-Strike' above her head all about?.
...the floor is open, folk's!.

I can sort of see what you mean about the hairnet..but I have no explanation for the line, apart from the fact that it is supposed to be a fine veil.Lightening? It is a crease.
The background is of mountains, rivers and valleys.
I notice you don't ask where her eyebrows or eyelashes are - disappeared over time maybe? Or too much zealous cleaning?
There is the question too of the right hand side horizon, not matching the left hand side.
I'd like to have seen it, in it's original state - before the many restorations...they say it is in remarkable condition for a 500 year old oil painting. Not forgetting that it was painted on wood, which warps and contracts and expands.

Da Vinci was a man of vision. Maybe he was painting Ena Sharpels.She may be thinking. I wish people would stop staring at me, it's making me paranoid.
Maybe he thought she was hot stuff.
The lightening strike above her head. She has just had a great idea how to stop people asking daft questions.

Whoever said she was a beauty wants their eyes examined, personally I think she's an awful looking bucket of tripe and she's got the hand of the elephant man, Da Vinci must have met her in a downtown bar when he had one over the eight, brought her home, sat her on a table at the window and painted her because he was too drunk to do anything else with her.
