Today's cycle ride

A scene from today's cycle ride. We really wanted to go through the gate but we're told to be wary of cows when they have their calves with them:

Looks lovely Mart , you were wise to avoid the cows with calves, I got chased by a cow a couple of years ago when I accidently got between her and her calf.

Lovely photo. I'm thinking of getting a bike. Not been on one for about 5 years though so I would probably be a "BIT" unfit again by now I know i'm unfit but I thought it just might get me a bit fitter if I take my time & just pootle along slowly

That is a lovely photo. Very serene. Where was that please?

I've not been on a bike since I was about eight and I've no intentions of trying my luck again as I nearly ran a bobby over on my first day out as a little girl.

No definite name (that I know of) for where the photo was taken but the Hampshire/Surrey border has a good few open areas that are a mixture of pine forest and heathland. This photo was taken on the Surrey side.

Need a good pair of walking boots or a mountain bike to get to the better parts though.

I did used to love cycling but when we got Taffy 5 years ago it was either go for a ride or take him for a walk & he won When I wasn't using my old bike - that i'd had for about 20 years OH gave it away saying you never use it now & its just taking up space

I could just go out for an hour or so a couple of times a week now & still take Taffy for his 2 walks.
I had a look in Halfords this morning at the bikes they have there & saw a couple I fancy but didn't ask about them.

Re: Today's cycle ride

I see quite a few cyclists with dogs running alongside of them. I think there are special leads that can be got. How about a basket on the front of the bike? When off-road and the dogs are free, they love the run. We sometimes have other people's dogs run with us until the realise they are leaving their owners too far away.

The answer to not having cycled for a while is to start off with only short runs. It's not just the aching muscles and being out of breath that's the problem. It's the saddle-soreness too!

I did try Taffy with the bike when he was younger but he thought he was a Husky the way he was pulling me along. He's too big for a basket he's a Border Collie. I would like to try taking him with me even if I had to push the bike to a footpath or park first.
I remember the saddle soreness I used ot walk like John Wayne
