Oh yes I remember Bluebells in a lovely wood in Preston, I ran down the hill and smashed my nose into a tree,went home with a bloody nose but never went there again.

Oh dear Alan I hate to say this about your lovely photograph but they look like the dreaded Spanish Bluebells (upright/flowers on all sides/pale/lacking perfume) which are not to be compared with our native Bluebells and may eventually be responsible for their demise if they are not stopped.
I pull them up if I see them to prevent cross pollination ...

How interesting Meg, I didn't know there were two varieties in the country. I do remember bluebells from years ago being a darker blue though.
