Paralyzed rats walk again - human trials planned

In the 'good news' category: Swiss-based scientists are making paralyzed rats walk again by injecting cell binding chemicals into their damaged spinal cords, re-awakening the rodent's so-called ''spinal brain''. Phase two trials on humans are planned for next year.

I think you mean spineless Jimmy

It's an amazing idea but I always worry when they say 'trials' on humans - my uncle was a guinea pig for arthritis drugs - there are always side effects.
Who wouldn't go for it if they are paralysed?

I most certainly would if I was paralysed as there would be nothing to lose.

I do feel strongly about testing on animals but, in the event that the animals are already sick, then testing is important. However, having said that ..... Another time, perhaps.

Re: Paralyzed rats walk again - human trials planned

I just wonder how the rats became paralysed in the first place. Personally I have very strong feelings about using animals in testing. I once knew someone who worked at a place which shall remain nameless, where all kinds of dreadful experiments were carried out on dogs. Her job was to collect the animal from the lab after the experiment. All I can say is you have to be a completely heartless and hard hearted person to work there. I have disliked that particular person ever since that time, I could not work in such a place no matter how high the salary.
