Got these wise words in an email, can they be true?


Men socialize by insulting each other..but they don't really mean it.

Women socialize by complimenting each other..and they don't really mean it either.

I can vouch for the Men's one Janela, it's very true, Men try to outslag each other all the time, even into old age, I hear it every day in the local and it's really great fun, you Ladies should try it.

True, I think.
Judging how my son and some of his friends act about when they get together, I would say it's true. They never say "I like your tie, hair jeans, shoes, whatever" it's usually some sort of jokey insulting remark
Women do say nice things about each other in groups to "oil the socialising wheels" I think. Even when you know you don''t look your best a women in a group of women is not going to tell you that you look frightful or make jokes about you. IMO it's only when two women friends who know each other really well are together that you might get one actually saying to the other one "you look as if you have been dragged through a hedge backwards"

I can't speak for others but I only compliment another woman if I genuinely think they look nice, otherwise I say nothing.

I agree with what you said about the Women Rena, but I'm glad you said it not me, I'd have been lynched.

Janela I guess the words may be true but as someone who avoids socialising whenever possible I can't really say

From a woman's point of view I think it really does depend on how well you know someone.

I would never knowingly offend anyone I didn't know personally, or otherwise, always trying to remain tactful and kind, but I do remember back in the 60s as a teenager when my friend and I went to C&A shopping for clothes.

My friend, at 5ft 8in and was an awkward size, but had the heart of a lion, chose a dress which she tried on. She looked horrendous in it. My response was that it was a nice frock, but I didn't think it looked right on her. She agreed and bought something else which really did look good on her.

I'm not much of a socialiser either. I had 5 good friends, all of whom died, over a period of about 10 years. I couldn't and don't want to fill their places, they were each special to me. There was no need to make fake compliments to them, I wouldn't have anyway.
I can see how men would insult each other in friendship but surely they compliment each other too occasionally?

My wife says that she can always tell if I don't like someone, as I can't be bothered to insult them.....
