Clear out gunge

Dont just backup your computer, when did you last really clean out your computer of all the internet gunge that is thrown at you?

CCleaner, Malwarebytes are two of the best free programs to use as well as your own computer systems clean up programs.

It will help your computer to run more smoothly.

Re: Clear out gunge

I didn't know you had to AB. I permanently delete unwanted e-mails from my "bin" and I thought the just "physically" clearing out unwanted stuff and the Norton software was enough to keep my laptop healthy. Now and then my laptop also asks me if I want to optimise its running. Isn't this enough "housekeeping".

Rena, what OS are you using?

If it is XP go to start-run and type in %Temp%, a list will come up with all the folders and files that are not being used.

If you are using windows 7, go to start-all programs-accessories-run and type in %Temp%.

These lists are gunge that could slow down your computer.

Thanks AB. I have Windows 7 Premium and I've just looked. There are quite a few, but the funny thing is that they all have dates in April 2012 on them. I wonder if this means that periodically my laptop self cleans??? I've no idea really.

Thanks for this, I'll have a look at it as my laptop seems to run quite slow and I've only had it 16 mths!

Re: Clear out gunge

I regularly run my Superantispyware, which I did tonight, and it brought up 56 infections, but they were only tracking cookies. I also ran my AVG as well and all was clear.

I regularly delete my browser history as well.

Is there owt else I need to do?

Please reply in words of simple English, preferably words of one syllable.

Thanks for the CCleaner tip. I've just downloaded it and it cleaned up a heap of stuff.

Re: Clear out gunge

When I looked, I deleted a couple from my laptop Barry, but then I decided to leave them until I knew a bit more about it. They were all dated April 2012 which seemed odd and I wondered if I had something on my laptop which routinely deleted them every now and then. I've never looked at these files before and my laptop is a couple of years old, so I wonder where did the ones before April disappear to. Perhaps AB will know.
