Re: Food Myths

Thanks for that Cate, it is interesting.

I've always kept eggs in the fridge and have never had a strange taste to them. I believe they last longer too, even had them past their use-by-date with no problem.

Also, never really liked the quick-cook porridge products, much prefer to make it up myself.

Re: Food Myths

I have never had a rotten egg either but I never keep them in the fridge. The boil easier if they are room temp. But I agree this is a very interesting article.

Re: Food Myths

That's very interesting Cate, I'm another one who always keeps eggs in the fridge.

I don't like the quick-cook porridge oats either, they don't even taste the same!

Re: Food Myths

I can't imagine leaving eggs at room temperature.

I especially like the tip about the produce being 50% more at supermarkets. There's a good farmer's market 2 blocks from me but it's only open Sat. til 3 and I avoid shopping on the weekend. Will re-think that plan now.

Good article.

Re: Food Myths

I 'bulk buy' eggs (its cheaper that way) and have kept them in my fridge long after the sell or use by date without any effect whatsoever. If, as I do, one breaks the egg into a small container BEFORE placing it with other ingredients or in the pan, it can readily be seen (or smelt) if the egg is fresh or not.

I'm really pleased I put this up. I always like to pass on anything interesting that others might have missed.
