Motherland (BBC2/Netflix)
Has anyone else watched this gem? It is a lighthearted series centred around a group of mothers and their school run/childcare life/work/relationships balancing problems, group politics, vulnerabilities, etc.
It's main character is played by Anna Maxwell Martin, almost unrecognisable because the character she plays is utterly different from Line of Duty's Carmichael. In this role she is for example struggling to entertain a kid's party by trying and dismally failing to make a 2ft caterpillar cake from three or more caterpillar cakes and blow up skinny balloons watching you tube instructions.
She is constantly trying to offload her children onto her (newly free) mother, who has at the start of the series decided to refuse any further childcare duties (having been burdened for several years). The series focuses on the character's innovative attempts to find alternative childcare solutions and nanny recruitment fails, along with repeated begging, bribing and cajoling of her mother (who continues to ignore her pleas).
Season 3 is shortly out on BBC2 (10th May) and Season 2 will be on netflix on 11th May.
