We are so Predictable!

Threads on coincidences, clocks, and free will got me thinking about human behavior.

I found this data visualizer on how 1,000 Americans spend their day. Scroll down about 3/4ths of the way to see the animation. You will probably want to change the setting to "Medium":

https://flowingdata.com/2015/12/15/a...-of-americans/

What's interesting is that while we think we are unique in how we spend our days, the clumps of dots show how patterned we are.

Every time there is a burst of activity, it is usually on the hour or half hour.

Interesting!

I swear we are programmed robots, some malfunction though lol.

Seriously though I said this to my dad a while back, I was watching everyone at work just marching about the workplace day in day out like a load of robots .

Re: We are so Predictable!

I think what surprised me most about the activity was how little time we were actually working compared to how much time we spend on leisure activities. It doesn't look to me like we work as much as we think we do.

It also looks to me like we need that clock to cue us to change activities, even when it's unnecessary.

That’s absolutely fascinating Surfermom.
My day follows a clock which dictates my activities.

Most Americans are asleep at the moment according to the animation.

I have always thought how silly we would look to an alien, watching us from space, when we all rush to work between say 7 -9am and all rush home again between 5-7pm.

We need to work, not retire, that rubbishes a lot of theories.
