The Animals guitarist Hilton Valentine dies, aged 77

Hilton Valentine, guitarist with the Animals, has died aged 77

"The Animals guitarist Hilton Valentine, who created one of the most famous riffs in pop music in the 1960s, has died at the age of 77.

The British band's version of blues standard The House of The Rising Sun topped the UK and US charts in 1964."

Some on here, who are 'of a certain age' will no doubt remember
the music if not the guitarist, Hilton Valentine:

The most worn out riff for budding guitarists. RIP.

Certainly do OGF and many others of that era, my teenage years the 1960s were, at least the start of them. I knew there would probably be others on here 'of a certain age' who would also remember the music, if not necessarily the guitarist. The 'good old days' as I recall them.

One of the first riffs I ever learned.ALong with "Apache" by the The Shadows, "Gloria" by Them and "Friday on my Mind" by the Easybeats. Vale Hilton Valentine. Golden days miles behind me.

Music started going downhill after the sixties and seventies Baz, until we end up with the load of imposters who are turning out rubbish now.....

Yes, it's a shame, but it seems that hardly a week goes by now without hearing that some old rocker from the 60s has died

A story I heard is that in the early days of The Animals, when they were playing in some of the rougher pubs & clubs around Newcastle and the North East, if the audience started booing, jeering, and getting stroppy, Eric Burdon and Hilton Valentine would stop playing and set about them with guitar straps and microphone stands

At the risk of going O/T, that was my period of music as well, from the start of The Beatles etc to Prog Rock

I remember watching a documentary about the 1960s, and the commentator said -

I am forever grateful that I lived during that magical time when Mod changed to Hippy
