Reducing our Carbon Footprint

I've noticed how much stuff in the shops these days is produced in China....
So why don't we all go and live in China, there is loads of space there and just think of all the energy it would save, no need to ship all of that stuff several thousand miles and it would greatly reduce our carbon footprint.
On the other hand.........Why don't we make it here? Now there's a thought...

Well this way the west can blame China for all the pollution on the planet guilt free. I thought that approach would appeal to you OGF!

I don't blame China for their pollution Annie, most of China's pollution stays in China. Very little permeates to the rest of the world. It can be likened to our smog which was mainly heavy particle, and as soon as you stop polluting it will dissipate, as our own smog did. The small percentage that remains airborne will be diluted into nothing in the upper atmosphere.

But returning production to the UK would not produce the same pollution because we have a strong 'Green' lobby that would require strict measures to prevent the pollution. One of the reasons why it's cheaper to have stuff made in China. With our strict health and safety laws, pollution fines, and the higher cost of labour it would make our products too expensive to manufacture here. What use is a spotlessly clean kitchen if you are not allowed to get it dirty?

We'd have to employ Chinese factory workers and pay them 20p/hour, but there's probably a law against it.

Reversion.

Railways that were closed to build roads put back. Reduction in HGV'S benefits all.

More apprenticeships, instead of pointless university degrees.

Conscription if only to get them fit and learn a useful trade.

Hi

Would we be able to or prefer to pay more for things?

Buy cheap, buy twice. False economy.
