How do I get rid of MSM home page!!!!!

OK all you nice people I'm about to throw a brick at this computer and go back to pre-internet days

I had Windows XP and IE something and all was fine (Apart from speed and some nasty virus's)

So got this nice new 64 bit superfast machine and it's absolute rubbish

For a start it's loaded with MSM messenger as the home page and I can't get rid of it, I've clicked on the home page icon and I've seen MSM as the listed 'home' page, I've deleted it, I've selected 'blank' instead, I've clicked on 'apply' and I've even switched off and re-booted and still it comes up with MSM as the 'home' page grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Any ideas anyone

In Firefox
Tools> Options> > General Tab
Delete current URL from the the Home Page dialogue box and insert your chosen url. i.e http://www.virginmedia.com/ or http://www.google.co.uk/
Or whatever place you want your home page to be.
Now click 'OK'.
Press Home logo to make sure of changes.

In IE, Tools> Internet Options.
Delete current URL from the the Home Page dialogue box and insert your chosen url.
Now click 'Apply'
Press Home logo to make sure of changes.

Thanks Annie, I can understand why they change things when there's a reason, but I'm still trying to work out why the favorites button has moved from top left to top right and it's not a button that says 'favorites' it's a little star icon.

Being one of lifes cynics I think it's just that some of these web page designers are full of their own importance

Re: How do I get rid of MSM home page!!!!!

I would guess from what you say about things being different that you have a newer version of IE installed (9?) than I am using.

I did try a beta version of that and binned it a while back and now use mostly IE8 or FF.

I do agree with you about people changing stuff to suit their own ego's, the old saying of 'if it ain't broke, leave the bu**er alone' has totally passed these folks by.

Yes Hammer, mine is IE 9 and all I can say is you did well to bin it I have been urged by someone to switch over to FF and she's offered me free telephone help so I've made up my mind I'll be going for that shortly.

Harvey, you can download the latest version here.

Firefox

I would suggest running IE as a standby until you get used to the ways of FF.
It is easy enough to set up and import your settings including bookmarks (Favourites) into the browser.
If you need any help just post or send me a PM, ( I would like to see what they look like )
and I will do what I can to assist.
George.

Thanks for your offer George, it really is nice to know people are willing to help. I only really have one question right now which is after I download FF will I have a little icon on my screen which I can click onto to get on the web via FF?? and if answer is 'yes' will the IE icon stay on the left of the control bar at the bottom of the screen?

That way I can (as you suggest) keep IE as a standby but more important is that OH (who also uses this PC) will still be able to access IE which is good because I don't want to have to tell her to use FF 'cos someone on OFF says it better, she has to work out that it's better herself if you get my drift
