Had You Ever Heard Of, Or Used The Word ‘Lockdown’ Before Covid -19?

Well, had you?
It wasn’t really a typical word that came up in conversation.
Even the people in Leicester want the word ‘Lockdown’ abolished as it makes them feel like ‘Lepers’.

Come to think of it, I hadn’t heard of ‘Furlough’ either, until Covid-19!

What about you? Had you heard of, or used these words before the virus began?
Maybe, there are other words now used that you hadn’t heard of before the virus?

Lockdown, yes. Over the recent few years in connection with such things as school shootings in America but also waaay back in connection with securing radioactive sources after use in the lab experiments.

Yes, have heard it used many times in American crime dramas... 'Lockdown the building's or 'Lock it down'

I've heard furlough mentioned in American films. I think when referring to leave from the armed services.

Sure, I've heard of it, many times. Example: Evening News
"After the prison riot was put down, the prisoners were placed on "lockdown. Each prisoner will be confined to his cell for at least 2 weeks".

On the Pointless tv program if two of the teams have the same score then the term lockdown is used, that's the only other time I've heard the word.

That's just because for some unfathomable and bizarre reason people over here pick up Americanisms.

I wonder if they'll drop that now, it was pretty sinister with that chanting!

It's hard to remember about lockdown, but I've just realised I've been confusing furlough with "furlong" from horse racing!
