Qantas Flight QF 7474

The last Qantas 747 left Australia yesterday. I put some pics in another thread of it flying "near" me however I thought you might be interested in its flight path as it left Australia.

It traced out the Qantas logo. This is a screen capture from Flight Radar 24 so not my photo.

BTW as an aside my son's ship HMAS Success was involved in the RIMPAC exercises last year and as a refueling ship their job was to stay out of harms way in company with a frigate. They had a box in which they had to steam for ships needing refueling to be able to find them. To pass the time they made similar traces on their radar including a gigantic prick and balls.

Watched it take off on FR24 Bruce, a wonderful aircraft and a premature sad end to a long era...

Brilliantly worked out. What a shame that the 747s are going the same way as Concorde. All part of the BIG PLAN I suppose.

A runner once did a similar thing with his GPS in New York I think it was. Such a shame to lose such an iconic aeroplane, but an example of progress hitting a dead end....

Re: Qantas Flight QF 7474

As I understand it the demise of the 747 fleet was already planned and the virus only brought it forward by 6 months.

Large four engined planes like the 747s and A380s were on the way out and being replaced by smaller more fuel efficient two engined planes. (this is purely what I have read)

It will be interesting to see if, as the world recovers from the pandemic, whether this is still true. The aviation industry might well rethink if this is the way to go or if there is another model.

Like the cruise industry with big sell offs, bankruptcies and cancelled orders the industry might have to rethink the way they work. The days of cheap travel and overseas holidays could well be behind us for many years to come.

I suspect my future is purely domestic travel. What do you think?

Could well be,I'm not going to consider any travel abroad unless a vaccine is developed, why risk it?
