Weather lore

I've been enjoying the Superstitions thread, thought we might do one about the weather.

A heavy acorn crop foretells a hard Winter.

Red sky at morning, sailors take warning; red sky at night, sailors delight.

Re: Weather lore

Rain before seven, fine by eleven

If a cat washes using it's paw to get right up behind its ears, rain is on the way

When ladybirds swarm, expect a day that is warm

If cows are lying down in a field, rain is on its way.

Haven't heard that one before dandysmom-round here we say Red sky at night shepherds delight-red sky at morning shepherds warning-just a different version.

Will have to have a think on this one.......

Re: Weather lore

Cows laying down = it's going to rain..
Halo round the moon = frost
Wind blowing the leaves up the wrong way so the underside is visible = storm on the way
Smoke from the chimney going straight up = fine weather

Rain before seven, fine by eleven, rain after seven wet all day.

I heard these from my Grandmother ...
