UK PM was wrong to name nurses who cared for him..this is why

Have just read this on the BBC news website and because of it I feel Boris was wrong in naming the nurses who took care of him because the media are now invading their lives.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52268341

You will see in the report that they have gone into more detail about the female nurse who is from New Zealand than they have done from the male nurse who is from Portugal BUT you can see that the press have invade their personal lives. The press are finding out everything they can about them, when they joined the NHS, talking to every family member they can, talking to the MP's and mayors of the towns where they come from, talking to their schools.

This is only one new outlet, the BBC but I am sure as the days go on, more and more tabloid press and online media outlets will push further into the nurses lives to get the 'inside scoop' on them.

It's wrong in my opinion and as such Boris should have never mentioned them by name in my opinion.

I agree Dodge, the NHS is a sum of all it's parts and does not rely on one individual.
The media, and especially the BBC are complete pests and should be restricted from stirring the pot of frightened and angry people. The news service should only be used as a conduit for official statements and releases of important information and the weather...

Yes, with hindsight it might have been better if Boris had just thanked the nurses who looked after him - adding something personal like 'You know who you are'

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I think there are more important things to worry about right now that the trivia of who was or wasn't thanked by a PM who at the time of thanking must have felt overwhelming relief and gratitude for his recovery.

Press attention will be temporary and it will all be forgotten in a few day time...

If the Prime Minister hadn't have mentioned them, the press would have found out anyway and put it all over the front pages of the newspapers.

Damned if you do... damned if you don't.

Sad we name the really heroes without the press digging.

Me I'd like to name them all.

The press are the only people at fault here, just as they are when they intrude into any individual's life. Isn't that what Harry was saying about Diana, when his mum had been so persecuted?

I am sure that Boris was just trying to thank the 2 people who put a lot of effort into saving his life & I am sure we would all have wanted people to know if we had been in the same position.

PM Boris Johnson may indeed have had the best of intentions but we all are aware that the press is no better than a pack of ravening hyenas.
I feel sorry for the overworked nurses who have been driven to the breaking point only to end up being stressed out even more by viscous hyenas.

I thought his actually naming them was part of a reminder that the NHS involves highly trained human beings, and is not simply just some big impersonal machine.
