Sainsburys for the over 70s

Just heard on the news that as from tomorrow (19th) the first hour of opening will be for the 70+ shoppers. Don't quite know how they will police that but check with your local shop just to make sure. Good luck folks.

That is good to know. If I have to go there - I usually go when they open - 7:00am - because it is quiet and empty of people. Now there could be queues!

Most of the shoppers at my local are over seventy so it could be even busier than usual.

Ours said it's ok for disabled or vunerable people under 70 too.
No loo rolls expected though. At least they bake bread on the premises so they'll have some.

Re: Sainsburys for the over 70s

I popped in there this morning around 10am to pick up my meds from the pharmacy. It was like the week running up to Christmas but without the happy, shiny faces. Some people looked as if they could kill for a loo roll. I'm sure they were creeping around with their legs clasped together.

It sounds a good idea, but will it stop the queuing up.

No chance. Only half of the checkout staff get there that early.

Looks like quite a few flaws in the scheme then EZ?
Perhaps a better idea would be to stop all home deliveries for
everybody, and then reissue the slots only to over 70s and the
vulnerable, to be decided by claimants NI number!
This should reduce the demand on the delivery systems and allows
the older citizens to more completety self isolate?
I expect a lot of noise from the younger citizens if anything like this
is proposed though as being so inconvenient for them☹️☹️☹️

A lot of staff are now starting an hour earlier. In fact, Sainsbury's are offering overtime (normal rate of pay) like there is no tomorrow. The trouble is, do the staff wish to be there any longer than they have to seeing as they are at risk? Let's hope the delivery lorry doesn't 'break down' again or there will be nothing for them to do.

Re: Sainsburys for the over 70s

Our Sainsburys carpark gets full of school run cars at that time. I bet some of them are "vunerable"
They should have a spot about 10ish and keep back certain stock to put out then.
