Just seen this announcement:

Jimmy Savile has died at the age of 84. Police are currently outside his home in Leeds but no details have been released as of yet.

Yes, he was certainly a one off, who actually put his money where his mouth was... did you know that 90% of his income went to charity? What a man, he will be missed by many...

What a shame there weren't more people around like Jimmy - he more or less devoted his life to charity work.

I knew he did a lot of work for charity but didn't know that he gave them 90% of his income which was very generous...yes he will be missed

Oh dear, Jimmy will be missed. Some of us will have known him from our teens on Top of the Pops, then years later when our own children watched Jim'll Fix It. I knew he did a lot for Stoke Mandeville Hospital but not that he donated so much to charity. What a trooper.

We used to pass Stoke Manderville hospital on the school bus and he was often seen jogging along the A4010 in a gold tracksuit and carrying a bucket! People would be throwing money out of cars for his helpers to pick up.. I wasn't a fan of the tv celeb but I did admire Jimmy the fundraiser
