Age Concern Discussion Boards

A rather sad email from AgeUK dropped in my box yesterday, it was Notice of closure of the Age Concern Discussion boards from the 20th of October.

Although not a frequent contributor to those boards I always found them lively, entertaining and informative, I am sorry to see them vanish.

The alternative being suggested, at least in the short term? would seem to be Facebook which I think a lot of my age group will decline.

Facebook isn't so bad, but I agree that it is sad that AgeUK are closing their discussion board. I find that AgeUK and Help the Aged have been whittled down and many of the services that they used to provide have been sourced out.

Aint that the way,if its going to help someone lets close it down.I was listening to the Radio yesterday breakfast time, five live, and they were discussing Poverty, cutting things back, and saying how awful it was, in my Humble opinion if they sent all immigrants home and stopped all these people coming to live here on this small island maybe we wouldnt be so poor.Children going to school without breakfast, people not eating for days, pensioners not being able to eat and keep warm. Disgraceful.

Aww that's a shame - it's exactly because of FB so many smaller community forums are shutting down

Maybe someone can recommend over50sforum to them over there?

Re: Age Concern Discussion Boards

I never even knew there was an Age Concern Discussion Board, but there is no way on earth that I would ever use Facebook.

I'm somewhat reticent about posting personal things on an open forum because of previous unkind encounters, and the worry that they might join this forum.

I'm almost 62 and I'll be honest, I do need help, but don't know who to turn to. I wish I'd known about that place before now.

I have to say that the Over 50s Forum have been a life saver to me. There were months when I was on my own and the kind words and support of the forum gave me a reason to get up and get going. Of course my dog helped too. Throughout illness and despair the forum has been there for me. I don't hold back and if there is something worrying me or if I am unhappy then I will tell all and ask for support, it has always been there for me. Mollie if you ever need a helping hand I know there would be many from the Over 50s
