Door to Door Salesmen

I thought that had been stopped. I'm sure I read somewhere that people could no longer ply their trade at your front door any longer, or have I dreamt this?

I'm not sure Mollie, we haven't had a door to door salesman round here for years.

I'd be interested to hear if anybody else has heard what I'm sure I've heard.

I remember heaving a sigh of relief, to think I wouldn't have any more cold-callers pestering.

The reason I bring this up is because this evening, just after dusk, there was a knock on my front door. I do not like to open my door after dark, now that I live alone, unless I'm expecting somebody of course.

Anyway, it was one of those happy young chaps with a toothpaste smile and a clipboard, asking me if I wanted to change over to Sky. I sent him on his way.

There are now certain areas where old folk live that are now no cold call zones Mollie, they have posters up.

Well I'm an old folk, Jimmy, and I'm not the oldest down my little street.

These salesmen can be quite intimidating, especially when they call after dark.

I'm not sure what the law is regarding this. A few months back we had a guy asking if we wanted to change our energy supplier, however that was during the day.

I do know that the telesales people shouldn't be phoning after 9pm.

Oh I don't have any tele-sales phoning me, day or night lass, as I have PTS so I don't get moidered with those. No, I'm only concerned with cold calling and it should be stopped as it is intrusive.

In the past, when I've had someone asking me to change energy supplies or whatever, I've just said I know you exist and, if I'm interested, I'll get back to you. I'm not very good at shutting the door on somebody, but sometimes needs must.

Did you mean TPS Mollie? I have that too......used to be up and down like a flipping yo-yo answering the phone and what used to annoy me more than anything, were the calls where a recording would be heard like "congratulations, you have won........."

Sorry lass, yes, TPS. I don't get any phone calls like that any longer.

It's these darned cold-callers I get but thankfully I work in the afternoons so don't have to suffer them if they come round then, but they note you down and come at night. Grrrr.

On my side of the Pond I haven't seen or heard of a door-to-door salesman in literally decades!! Thank God!
