California burning again??

Seems like its now become an annual event?
Is it all down to climate change, or is it because too many people
have moved into the state because of the lifestyle available?
And l suppose they all want to live in the mountains with trees in
close proximity, which of course are coniferous trees which are
highly flammable!
Put mainly wooden dwellings in with the above, and mix with hot
dry windy conditions and you have a recipe for disaster??
Maybe people will lose the desire to live there due to the risk
every year and the population will fall and relieve the pressure?
Who knows?

You have a point. When you see all the undergrowth close to the houses, it can be a recipe for disaster, especially if the area is fire prone.

Nothing about it on the BBC news page this morning, or the thousands of brexiteers who are protesting in London, or the protests going on in Spain, Italy, and Holland.
There is lots of news about Lesbians and Gay Pride events though.....

I suppose I should have known better than to expect 'proper' news from the Biased Broadcasting Company....

I always assume that these fires are started by humans, not necessarily on purpose but because of camp fires.

A good proportion of them are started by lightning LD, particularly
when not accompanied by rain if the forests have been dry for
a while!
But as you say, careless people, and vegetation too near to
housing etc plays a big part too!!

Re: California burning again??

Californian fires are a natural annual occurrence, usually in the autumn and is beneficial to the woods. The trees resist being burned and ground cover gets burned off so allowing new growth to take place. It's triggered by lightning strikes and were in not for the houses being built that are then at risk of being destroyed the natural fires would be left to do their thing. It's been taking place for thousands of years.
