Notes from my MS journey

Got results of my recent cognitive testing from a doc at the MS clinic today. It seems my brain is slower than average at processing information, though I can still solve problems and get results that are above average - as odd as that sounds. So I need to be patient and not get frustrated. That's encouraging.

As for the bouts of fatigue and mental fog, she wants me to start exercising regularly and says it will tire me at first but after a year or so (a year!!!) I should notice more energy and clear-headed thinking. This immediately gave me the notion that I should consider having a dog in my life again. (I hear cheers from some of you, don't I?) Promptly following this notion was the memory of walking my Sheltie in all kinds of fierce and inclement weather... so perhaps I'll start with a bit of yoga and some short walks first.

Re: Notes from my MS journey

Hi Sue having MS must make you family circumstances harder to cope with (hugs).

I am a great advocate of exercise of any kind however limited believing it keeps the circulation in trim which in turn benefits all parts of the body including the brain. When I damaged my knee a couple of years ago and was in great pain, had I not owned a dog I wouldn't have had the incentive to continued to walk every day (or should I say hobble across the fields with a stick ).

I think many of us experience a slowing of brain function with age , I certainly do and have to stop and think really hard how to do some things and it all takes so much longer , so you are not alone

Sue, I think getting a dog is a brilliant idea. As well as the benefits you mention, you will be able to escape from your troubles at home on your walks and have a loyal friend into the bargain. Walking really does work to boost you up. Without my dogs I don't do enough now. As for yoga, I only started last year, it can help alot with balance, breathing correctly, relaxation, muscle strenth, the list goes on ......

Oh yes get a dog Anniej, not a pup, one old enough not to be a trouble to you, and you would get a best friend, some one to love you, listen to you telling them all about your troubles, and someone to cuddle. Go girl.

I do keep mulling it over! Not a puppy, I agree... I'd probably choose a rescue dog. We'll see...!
