9/11

It is without doubt a very solemn day in anyone's calendar, but it is now 10 years since the horrendous tragedy of that day.

I'm not an American, but I shall be remembering this day with great sadness, and I hope that others will join me in having a few moments silence, remembering the unbelievable horror of that day 10 years ago.

Re: 9/11

As you say Mollie a day of sadness and remembering.
Septemer 11th touched many people around the world ...

I was getting ready for work when the plains struck, my son rang and said to put the TV on and I watch the events unfold with horror until I had to leave for work.

We had just returned to school after the summer holiday and there were a number of girls studying with us who came from the USA. Communications with the USA were difficult and it took many hours to ascertain that the families of our girls were all safe.

Some of the girls in our house who were studying economics had been on an educational visit to the USA the previous Easter and had toured the World Trade Centre, for them too the events of September 11th held a special significance.

I'm touched at how many people share in the horror of that day. It doesn't seem possible it has been 10 years. I'd just gotten up and was dressing, turned the TV on almost at the time the second plane struck .....

I too sadly witnessed that terrible day on TV and the useless loss of innocent lives, a day never to be forgotten, my prayers are with the Families and loved ones of all those who perished. God bless them all.

Eileen what do you think of the memorial.

To me it seems appropriate and appears in my imagination to be an allegorical representation of 9/11 with waterfalls of tears , deep dark pits of despair and trees of new birth and hope ...

I saw today on tv a couple who had lost their beloved daughter on that day & they went to the fountain to find her name etched in the wall surrounding it ... very moving ... I think it's a wonderful memorial.

That's a perfect description of the memorial, Meg. I found the memorial services very moving, so much so that I had a lump in my throat, especially when the families were reading out the names of those who lost their lives...
