Dyeing clothes

How is this done properly?
My work uniform is black (t-shirts, sweatshirt, shorts, trousers) and they are very basic quality and fade very quickly. They turn a 'pale black', almost grey when washed over and over again.

What do I need if I want to dye my work clothes so they remain black? Do I get one of those round tablet things and add it to water? How much of it and will the dye come off onto my skin and make a mess of the kitchen sink?

I want to try this out but need advice first. I don't want to ask my wife because I know she wouldn't want me to do it, so I would wait until she goes out and then dye my clothes when she's not watching.

Any advice with this? Thanks

Don’t do it !

By the way are you using Bio washing powder ? That will take the color out.

Why not?

We use Fairy. That's all I know.

Because your wife will go spare ? You said she wouldn’t want you to ?
I’m not going to give you instructions ,believe me you’re on the wrong track if you think you can do it in the kitchen sink !

Re: Dyeing clothes

I was just thinking about tie dyeing a white t shirt!

You need Dylon, either a sachet or a little round tin Floydy.
Get your wife to read the instructions and tell you what you can use I seem to recall you need to add salt to make it fix.
Perhaps you can use a bucket or something that won't matter if it gets dyed!

Good luck.

Thank you TessA for your polite and civil reply
I'll look into it, though I am able to read instructions myself

I think it's the very basic quality of the uniform we are supplied.
My normal t-shirts don't fade.

Where was I not polite or civil ?
Didn't want to advise you to do something you might regret .

Tess they don't do the 50 pence or thereabouts tins anymore where you could hand dye . This is now a sachet https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dylon-Inten...kitchen&sr=1-1
