Ginger Baker

There is a programme about Ginger Baker on Sunday 5 May

Imagine - Beware of Mr Baker 10-00pm BBC4

I've seen most of this before, but it's well worth watching again

Re: Ginger Baker

I saw Ginger Baker's Airforce once when I was working in the UK. The concert I went to had one of his long drum solos which at the time seemed bloody fantastic - they were very late starting having literally just come back from the Continent and the boat/train/truck/whatever had been held up (forget where the concert was - might have been the Lyceum)

Later a friend, part of the group that attended the concert bought the LP and we looked forward to listening to it. Come the drum solo... My gawd it was boring, just went on and on ad nauseum. The LP, of course, lacked the atmosphere of a live show which even the finest drugs could not recreate.

Saw it a few years back - superb film, superb drummer, but not really a nice man at all.

He's best known as the drummer in Cream, but he did other things as well
He's also something of a character

Re: Ginger Baker

I thought he was dead, but he's alive and approaching 80 with, AFAIK, a Zimbabwean wife half his age.
