Bang - bang

Yep . . . it was the glorious 12th yesterday . . . the shooting season has started . . . I saw a brace of Grousilarious Scotchipussii fly past earlier . . . they were wearing tin hats.

I never ceases to amaze me at the attire the hunting set wears . . . sh!te catchers (plus fours) and those comming and going hats (deer stalker hats) . . . it's like a fashion parade innit.

In the distance you can hear the cry . . . "oh I say, nice shot Percival" . . . bloody snobs . . . I'm sure they aint in need of food for the table.

I call them yahoo Hendrys.

Ooops . . . forgot to mention the green wellies too.

Class spite is as unattractive as any other envy and spite Denis, and however you feel about people who hunt or shoot or fish, all of whom aren't "toffs", the countryside would be a damn sight poorer place without them. Half the estates in Scotland would go bankrupt without them, and with bankruptcy goes all the local employment. Who else is going to pay as much to go there, just to look at the scenery? A touch of biting the hand that feeds you methinks...

p.s. Personally I don't shoot, but I do own some green wellies....

I have a pair of green wellies too but not for £6 from Matalan. More like £50 from the outdoor shop. Does that make me a snob and oh dear they are called Hunters

Re: Bang - bang

I don't think that makes you a snob Rueben...I just couldn't justify £50 for a pair of wellies.......Mine will probably only last 12 months if that ......Your hunters will last a lifetime.......

Re: Bang - bang

Not class spite as you say my friend . . nor envy . . . and I'm a keen angler too . . . there are too many absentee landlords up here IMO, and the jobs they provide are minimal . . . the shooting season is one of the times they appear up here from down south . . . and some think they're above the law by getting their lackeys to kill birds of prey who take the odd bird or two to survive . . . remember the Golden Eagle that was poisoned 2 years ago . . . now I wonder who could've done that ?

Not a difficult question doncha think . . . and that was only one incident that came to light . . how many other birds of prey have disappeared ? . . . . the moors are barren and wild, not agricultural land for farming and they should remain that way . . . the only farm animals that survive there are the sheep . . . oh, and those other targets . . . deer.

In my early twenties I admit to doing a bit of shooting occasionally but only for two years . . . I grew up . . . I now know better and leave the wild life to live in peace.

Shooting on one large estate in Central Scotland, which is owned by an elderly gentleman is banned . . Cromlix, not far from Stirling . . . the wildlife from the surrounding estates use his land as a sanctuary . . . the Geese and deer have no fear on his land . . . sometimes in the distance when I'm fishing the lochs up there you can hear the gunfire from the surrounding estates . . . all in the name of sport eh.

I have no doubts about you not being a snob Cassie . . . but you aint got the title Baroness or Lady or Dame before your name have you.

However . . . there's one Dame I admire tremendously . . . Dame Edna Everidge . . . . and also a knight . . . Sir Les Patterson . . . the cultural attache for Australia.

Re: Bang - bang

Although in reference to fox hunting, the analogy works just as well with those who pay vast sums of money to go huntin' & shootin' for the fun of it rather than for their own food pot.

I happen to like venison too, but it is prohibitably expensive because its not farmed as other animals are, but kept for the pleasure of those 'hooray Henrys' who choose to shoot them but then cannot eat all they shoot.
