In my opinion it doesn’t really matter what anyone else thinks. If those were his wishes then get those papers signed. I think it’s the most generous thing a person can do;Donate their body to medical research so others can benefit from their death.

What a wonderful gift he has left. I would definitely sign those papers if that was his wish.

Follow their wishes, that is what they wanted.
We are desperate for more brains for research in this country.

Re: Medical Research.

My mother left her body for research at the University.
Very long story, which I think I've related before.

The only slight hiccup to the proceedings, which I was worried about as mum was always adamant she wanted it to happen, was that when the University viewed her body in hospital, there was some discussion whether to accept it. Can't remember all the details, think it might have been to do with gangrene in her leg, but don't quote me on that.

Suffice to say, it all went ahead and it was wonderful. All departments were very respectful, two wonderful services at the cathedral, one after receiving the body and one returning the body after they had finished with it (sounds awful 'finished with it', but I can't think of better wording.
Brain not in gear). They even organised the cremation, if the family wished. All very very respectful and caring towards family members too.

All very moving. She would've been made up it all came to fruition and that in some way, she'd helped medical research.

Re: Medical Research.

I wonder what medical research means. Are these the bodies that medical students practice on?

I knew someone who carried out research in an organ donation lab. He said he would never donate his organs.

If that was the deceased's wishes then that should be all that matters.

Re: Medical Research.

Is this the same as donation as in Shropshire's thread?
