crash helmets

With crash helmets one should never ever do up the chin strap.
Why? because if a bullet hits the helmet and forces it back, the bullet my not kill you but the chin strap will throttle you to death with the backward force.

I suppose you could call it logic!

A bullet would laugh at a crash helmet and go straight through.

I think a more pertinent rule would be that we all should wear tin hats and body armour, especially if you live in Londonistan.

Oh, but he has.

He asked me to take aim and shoot him.

Luckily, I missed and hit the top of his crash helmet.

Re: crash helmets

Top tip, if you are a nervous pillion passenger, put your helmet on back to front.

Re: crash helmets

Well Realspeed appears mistaken.

This video clip shows a 50 cal rifle bullet sail through 6 motorcycle helmets with ease.

However when we come to a proper ballistic helmet then perhaps it's not too fantastical.

Watch these dumb Russians test it out !!

There is certainly some helmet movement !

Re: crash helmets

The British, used to have pudding basin helmets in ww2, they rarely fastened the chin strap, this was because if in sentry duty for example, and an enemy soldier attacked from behind , they could pull the helmet back and it would break the neck, the Germans of course had a different design, something similar is used by modern US forces today

Before the pudding basin ones, the helmets were just made of leather!

Re: crash helmets

I have worn skid lids I have worn bone domes and I have worn GS, but I have never gone on ops or exercise with a crash helmet, maybe the poster is referring to motor cycle display teams or WW2 dispatch riders.
