I had to buy a new kettle.

The old one was, I think, around 3 years old.

I got it from Tesco Online shopping along with my usual food and bits and pieces although I swear my appetite is around half of what it was.

This new one seems OK - £21, I know I could get it cheaper somewhere else but felt it sensible to buy when I was shopping anyway. I test boiled it halfway full and it seems fairly quick.

It was no fun boiling water in a saucepan twice a day although I needed surprisingly little water for a mug of coffee, it was more the inconvenience that got to me.

Ours rarely last as long as that ffosse with hard water and it's boiled 10 times a day sometimes. One we have currently lights up the water blue looks really pretty when it's on. No idea how much it cost we inherited it from a friend who said it tripped her electric, hasn't done that once since we got it.

I bought mine in Tesco too. It's a quick boiler.

Re: I had to buy a new kettle.

My last one started off with a blue LED which failed after a year, although the kettle itself lasted another 2 years. I think I've gone through about 4 kettles in the 12 years I've been here.

My new one is a Russel Hobbs. I would never pay silly money but wonder what the difference is between the £20 ones and the ultra cheap unbranded ones.

strange that ,we also have just had to replace our Bosh kettle and again only 3 years old. I wonder if they have a built in failure time. Ours started leaking through a small purpose???? one of 3 holes in the bottom

Stranger still, my previous kettle was a Bosch.

We take automatic kettles for granted these days but Russell Hobbs were the first to do that.

Re: I had to buy a new kettle.

Oh the subject of kettles makes me boiling mad. We have gotten through a kettle a year or even less in the last five years. So I have taken to saving the box and receipt in the cupboard under the stairs. But I had a breakthrough as just before Christmas the Sainsbury's kettle packed up and it turned out it was within two weeks of the guarantee. I pulled out the box and receipt and they exchanged for a new one with no problem! The best news is that the exchange is guaranteed for another year

They don't make them like they used to; this one is of a lighter and flimsier plastic than the last.
