Have We Become Just ‘A Number’ In Society?

I am not sure when it all started, maybe on the introduction of bank and loyalty cards? Oh wait on, l had forgotten hospital numbers, NHS numbers, National Insurance numbers even Co-Op dividend numbers!

Our lives now seem to be engulfed in a mass of numbers, be it telephone/mobile numbers, credit cards, loyalty cards, PIN numbers, bank accounts, part of passwords, table numbers, lottery numbers and others l can’t think of at the moment.

So l ask, are we just a number in society, are numbers taking over our lives and we are no longer the human we started out as?
There are so many numbers in our lives, do any of us know or remember these numbers?

Is it on your birth certificate and have you been baptised?
Do your friends shorten it?

Possibly so.For me, it isn't big issue because I'm blessed and cursed with a fairly good memory for numbers.

That’s useful, Besoeker. I can remember some numbers but not all of them!

One of the problems is with so many numbers and passwords to remember you either have to write them down or use the same ones all the time, neither of which is ideal security wise.

As for being just a number...

I have the sort of brain that doesn't register and remember numbers so spend a lot of time standing looking blank .

I have had to 'hide'' my card numbers disguised as phone numbers on a business card I keep in my purse for one of those blank moments

Yes, useful and made use of by others especially at work.
"Do you remember that job number fot the AJ Wiggins job we did?"
It's all recorded so whoever had the need to know could look it up. Just easier to ask me.

I only found out recently when I applied for health insurance renewal, which I took out in 1991 - it seems I confused health insurance and car insurance .....

I'm not sure whether to live with it or not, I would have preferred 747HJH .....

Omah, What? You mean you weren’t joking? I honestly thought you had made it up, hence my ridiculous reply!

Yes, the 747 as in Boeing, sounds better!
