The Day of the Triffids (1963)

One of my all-time favourites .....

Acting and production values are dreadful while the plotline is wildly unfaithful to the book but somehow the movie "works" .....

I never saw that film - just the TV series (1980s I think) with John Duttine. It was very scary at the time! Have not read the book so not sure how true to story it was.

IIRC, the BBC TV series was a faithful adaption, i.e. a social commentary rather than an adventure story, but, nevertheless, some viewers found it frightening. Although released in 1981, it had the usual BBC "economy" special effects, which, IMO, compared badly against films of the time, which included Alien, THX 1138, Star Wars, Escape From New York, Mad Max and Outland.

Absolutely hated it. It had no saving graces at all.

I have two TV versions of the book - one from the 1980s mentioned before and a 2009 version:

I saw the TV series, but not the film, never read the book either. I thought the series was good.
