Re: Belfast Today !!!

Shame about the building - it has quite a history. Used to be used for public executions at one time. I hope at least some of it can be saved.

Re: Belfast Today !!!

Terrible shame, I was watching it go

They were just about to reopen after a huge refit

Possibly an electrical fault

Shame so many people are to be jobless, hopefully they can redeploy as many as they can

Ive not caught the latest but I hope the facade can still be saved

It was a bank originally. Same thing I suppose.

It is a shame that such a lovely building has gone. I bet it will be a real loss to locals as was the Royal Clarence Hotel burning down in Exeter.

Re: Belfast Today !!!

Saw this on the news, looked to be an uncontrolled inferno similar to the Mackintosh building in Glasgow a few weeks ago. I can't imagine them saving either building to be honest..

Re: Belfast Today !!!

Well the staff are being paid for this week at least, what happens next, who knows. There is talk of a pop up shop opening as there are plenty of empty units in Belfast

The fire service are saying unofficially at the moment that it was a blow torch that was the start. It was in the last weeks of a major refurb

The front of the building they are hoping to save but they won't know for a day or two yet. Right now fire crews are still damping down as wee packets of fire keep appearing
