You are very wise in this case, most links which end in .htm or .html are safe enough because your antivirus software will take care of it BUT this link ended in .php a scripting language which is like a program and which you are giving permission to run.

Other ones to what out for are .bas .exe .js - these are OK if you know and trust the source but just random URLs? be wary.

Having said all that this one was probably fine but personally I wouldn't click on any links with those extensions.
