The Land of the Summer Settlers.

The county of Somerset gets it's name from the people who settled by here during the summer when the land dried out. They brought their animals to graze on the lush grass and would then move back to higher ground when the rains came in the Winter.

Tail end Charlie, final approach for Brizzle international airport.

Axe Vale panoramic view, looking across the Levels.

Axbridge to the right, Brean Down in the far centre distance.

Looking North towards Bristol, Chew Valley Lake to the left.

Things are starting to go downhill.

The gateway to the valley below.

One of the County hyper-ways.

Stumped.

Make hay whilst the sun shines. Blagdon Lake panoramic view, from Nempnett Thrubwell.

Lovely Ubley through the heat haze.

Holt (Yeo Valley Yoghurt) Farm the other side of the lake.

Not much holiday traffic by here today. After that, it was a nice quiet run back home in time for tea.

Lovely photos of our beautiful county Fruitcake.
Flippin' hot here in the cheese, clouding over now with a lovely mackerel sky.

Re: The Land of the Summer Settlers.

Plenty of room there for new housing estates instead of building around this overcrowded area

Opposite of here in Northumberland, valley bottoms and farmland is Known as (In-by) land, used in winter to protect the flocks brought down from the hills (Out-by) land.

Nice to see your area, still have some green and pleasant land.

Yes. I'm expecting a postal order any day now.

Here's one I forgot to post. Weekend rifle range just above Cheesetown Gorge.

Re: The Land of the Summer Settlers.

I love Somerset, go there a lot. Glastonbury Tor can be seen for miles. Never been to the music festival though. I have been to Chew valley lake & Clarke's village many times & Bath & West show ground.
Super photo's Fruitcake.
