How Long.

Are you a driver?

how long have you held a driving licence for?

do you still enjoy driving as much as you used too?.. (those who drive)

or have you given it up,through losing confidence?..

I learned to drive when I was twelve in 1962. I passed my test when I was seventeen and have been driving ever since, I am now 68. I have never had an accident, parking or speeding ticket. Admittedly the latter was more luck than judgement when I was younger. I have told my children they must tell me if they consider I am no longer fit to drive and I will give up immediately. My mother should not have been driving for the last 15 years of her life, in the opinion of my siblings and I, she was a menace on the road.

Re: How Long.

I had two attempts at leaning to drive but decided it wasn’t for me! Hubby has been driving for 50+ years and thinks the new car we are getting this week will be his last vehicle. He doesn’t really enjoy driving any more but unfortunately he doesn’t enjoy being a passenger either!

Re: How Long.

Ive been driving coming 10 years

Never needed to drive as a Londoner so wasn't till I moved to the back of beyond that I finally had to get behind the wheel

I love it

I love the freedom it gives me

We don't have traffic so driving is a pleasure here, our motorways are just glorified duel carriage ways and for the most part Im driving country roads

I have driven Liverpool to London and London to Ayr and I have to say, apart from first few miles of nerves, I really enjoyed the experience

Re: How Long.

I don't drive.

I passed my Test first time after 26 lesson in 1982 and have never drive since, the roads are too busy here and I am a bit nervous of other drivers.
I don't intend to drive ever again either.

Re: How Long.

Passed my test in 1971 aged 19. Second attempt.

Do I enjoy it as much? Not really, and I do make some mistakes. Not received speeding fines, but a few parking tickets, one was subject to questioning on my part but still had to pay.

I only use the car occasionally, maybe twice a week, but I’d never give it up. Besides, it has my personal plate on. I too love the freedom and knowing I can just decide to drive somewhere (shops, the vet, my younger sister, brother, the doctors, Pets at Home, Ikea and Tesco) whenever I feel like it.

My favourite cars were the red Ford Capri, and my Silver Escort Ghia. The latter was a 1.6 engine with a sun roof, and went like a bomb, but being a Ford ended up as a rust bucket, with water pooling in the seat wells. I exchanged it for the new Micra in March 2003, and still have that.

In Cornwall in 2006 Mum and I hired a brand new Ford Focus and I loved every minute of driving that car, so that is what I would go for next. Funny, but my brother recently downsized his, to a Fiat 500. His dream car, they both said. I’d have remained upsizing, but hey ho,

The Micra is only 1.2 so it prevents me ever buying a towing caravan atm, which is what I would dearly love. However, until something major happens to the Micra, it remains with me.

Re: How Long.

When Mum had her accident , shortly before our fatal cruise, she was warned in hospital by medics that she shouldn’t still be driving. So she declared okay, the family would have to visit her rather than her driving out to see them. Sadly, It was all too late.

Re: How Long.

My mother refused to give up driving so we persuaded her GP that she was no longer safe on the road and had her licence removed. Her car was then sold by my sister who had POA. My mother never forgave me for that action as I carried the can for it. However, if she had carried on driving she might have killed someone.
