Beware of Fish Tanks.

Hi

This could have gone in pets or Science, but decided to post it here.

The dangers of keeping corals.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...shire-43558736

Ten landed in hospital after a marine aquarium was cleaned.

A dose of 100 nanograms per kilogram is fatal in humans, (about nine thousandths of a percent of an aspirin tablet) is enough to kill an average man.

The owner must have seriously annoyed his corals to give off enough to affect so many people,it is normally safe enough to touch them or clean the tank wearing rubber gloves, these stop the poison entering the blood through small cuts and abrasions.

My corals have stung me from time to time, but never anything like this.

Doesn't have to be toxins like this either my uncle nearly lost his hand, did lose two fingers after he cleaned his tank and get an infection in his nail bed.

Certainly put us all off keeping fish, aquarium is still in the shed.

Yes swims - I remember you mentioning the lethal danger in the fish tank. I remember you saying if your life became unbearable this is the way you would end it.

Don't fancy that method myself.

I feel very sorry for all those people innocently affected.

Well that's a shocker, we used to keep a couple of marine tanks but never knew that....

Pop a Crown of Thorns starfish in with them. That'll make them behave.

Pub here in Brighton used to have aquarium in the bar. Publican had a couple of lion fish in the tank. An idiot customer decided to put his hand in the tank, got 'stung' and died.

Whilst it was a stupid thing to do, was there a notice on the tank saying the fish could kill?
