My daughter went to visit it in the 80s said it was a slum.

Re: Leaving Alcatraz

My daughter lives near San Fran and we visited the Prison
We went in Al Capone;s Cell

The whole place is dire and nothing like the Prisons in the UK, which are like Hotels in comparison.

The Prison generates a very good revenue with thousands of fee paying visitors each year.

It is very evocative. I remember being VERY impressed and frightened as a young boy when the Solitary Confinement door was shut on us during a tour!

I too found it very eerie Bobby.
All that concrete and no comfort for the prisoners
In UK these days, prisoners get treated very well and often the victim gets ignored.

Re: Leaving Alcatraz

The tur guide said here were about 6 cells below that had water on the floor, that is whee they put the really troublesome prisoners in. How true this is I don't know.
