Rail fares going up

Rail fares are going up.
Rail fares are so outrageous anyway .
It's disgusting
The trains should be nationalised again with set reasonable fares .
International investors own some of our train companies and set ares and times making profits that are not reinvested in the trains.
In other countries trains are better and cheaper .

I and Jeremy Corbyn (amongst others) advocated that more than two years ago and both of us were castigated by the scumbag 'nasty party' element on here for doing so.

I would agree, but some people allowed that evil witch Thatcher(phth, phth, phth) to denationalise it and flog it off to her cronies.

Re: Rail fares going up

There are 28 different rail operators in the UK, and 70% of Britain's Railways are under foreign ownership.

Another good reason for leaving the EU before they grab the lot through control and command .

To nationalise them again would be a near impossibility (in our lifetime) , so we shouldn't live with pipe dreams.

Half the trouble is that people commuting to London for work have their wages subsidised by their employees for the benefit of travel. If it costs £4000 per year per head , no one would go to work in the Capital otherwise. That means the rail companies can rely on the fares being paid.
There are also many children who travel to and from school by train in certain regions of the county.

It beggars belief when we consider how long Southern rail have been disrupting the service due to other stupid issues.

Price increases degreed by the 'Rail Delivery Group' formed in 2011. Another conglomerate of all sorts.

Very simple way of re-nationalising it - by statutory instrument without compensation!!!

Re: Rail fares going up

There are many folk here that can no longer afford to travel any place by train. A good day out was to get the train down to Inverness for the day and back after the shops closed and you'd had a meal. Now they've priced it out of reach for many. High time it was put back in public hands, getting shot of the greedy fat cats with their paws ever deeper in the cash bag.

Hi

Not a sensible idea as some companies are owned by foreign governments.
