Tax on the Sick!

NHS bosses have netted £174 million profit on Hospital Parking.
This is grossly unfair as many people on a limited income, visit their sick relations daily at charges from £3.20 to £4.00 daily if you can get a space.

Why can't these charges be capped as many other services and goods are ? Rents are capped and can only go up with the C O L index often 1% or 2%.

NHS organisations say these charges are for the upkeep and maintenance of the Car parks and put back into patient care?
As these Car parks are relatively new they do not need much maintenance.

It's outrageous that people are sick and have to pay charges.

Re: Tax on the Sick!

That's strange, when we asked our local hospital for numbers they told us they get nothing it's all done by private firms.

I'm not doubting what's written I'm just puzzled why local hospitals say different.

I also thought it was done by private firms.

These firms pay for the privilege of ripping us off. They have to tender for the contract to run the car parks.

Re: Tax on the Sick!

Hi

The parking charges as of November 1: Up to two hours (£3), up to three hours (£4), up to four hours (£5), up to five hours (£6), up to 24 hours (£8).

These are per visit, so if you visit someone twice a day it will cost you £6.

A cup of tea or coffee from the machine in the waiting areas is £2.

While some of the self-parking in U.S. hospitals is free, in some of the larger ones you do have to pay. However, I haven't yet been to a major hospital yet that didn't have free valet parking.

While valet parking may be a service that was birthed out of competition between hospitals, I suspect it's more about avoiding slip and fall lawsuits than anything else.
