Chest Freezers

Tell me something - why do they measure chest freezers in cubic feet? It drives me nuts.

I have been looking at one to fit in a space about 4 & half foot by 3 ft, so it is the size in feet and inches I need, NOT flamin' cubic feet! Cubic feet means absolutely nothing to me.

All the adverts and sales stuff is always in cubic feet. So Curry's and John Lewis have both just lost a sale now.

Re: Chest Freezers

How tall is it? If, for arguments sake is was three feet high, the freezer would be 4x3x3 = 36Cu ft

That's the whole size, not the interior but you should be able to get the general size.

Re: Chest Freezers

If something isn't measured in feet and inches or pounds and ounces, I have to Google to work out what sizes they're talking about .

Imagine a cube with equal sides, its volume will be length, x width x height.

So a cube 3x3x3 (ft) would by 27Cu Ft

Do you mean 3 x 3 = 9 x 3 = 27?

Is that how you do it?

Yup. Easy ain't it?

For your freezer, you need to get the cube ROOT, f'rinstance, the cube root of 27 is 3 - you just work it backwards so if if you know the height of the freezer, you divide that volume by the height. The remaining number will be the lengths of the sides multiplied together.
