Oxford Dictionary's Word of the year 2017

"Youthquake". I must be way behind the times, I've never heard of this word. I've never heard of a "milkshake duck" either.

You'll have to read the article ST, although I'm not much wiser after reading it. I can't actually imagine ever needing a dictionary to look up this word. If it's "word of the year" then I suppose it must be used somewhere !

Bring back SCHADENFREUDE, especially when used in an alliterative context.

Youthquake is what happened to the Scottish Referendum and the massive rise in young support for Jeremy Corbyn. After decades of the young not being interested in politics, this generation realise it is their futures that are at stake - not ours.

Thanks for the definition CeeCee. I have never heard this word, not even once, so I don't know how it can be classed as the word of the year.

My guess is that these words are made to order. A political statement perhaps? It's like the Nobel prize for literature which is often won by an author we have never heard of and even less likely to read.

Off topic perhaps, but my favourite word in the English language is numinous.

Words to order seem to be on trend.
I often make up words.
