Cuts and scratches.

My young Grandson came in with a cut on his finger so I washed it well, put some TCP on it and a plaster. What do you use for such little mishaps?. We always had a bottle of TCP handy and for years wondered what TCP stood for (it's not Tom Cats Piss) so I looked it up and here's the answer. 'The brand name comes from it's original chemical name which is Trichiorophenylmethyliodosalicy', (get a spell check on that!). No bloody wonder they call it plain TCP.

Re: Cuts and scratches.

Small cuts and scratches we just wash under a running tap and apply spray on plaster.

Larger cuts we wash in running water clean with antiseptic ( depends which she who must be obeyed has bought in ) apply a blood coagulant and bandage.

clean with soap & water, apply aloe right from plant-don't worry about it-it's a long way from the heart.

Clean the cut with diluted Dettol, dry, then apply dettol ointment and a plaster.

I use either Bactine or Neosporin, both are topical designed to protect while killing germs. I used Neosporin when I was bitten by my friend's cat, Jack. Cat scratches & bites can get serious because of what is known as "Car scratch fever". The wound healed without incident.

Re: Cuts and scratches.

For minor cuts I would simply wash and encourage to bleed (squeeze it if it is your own cut), dilute TCP is fine, (but prefer antiseptic cream such as germoline or savlon) cover only if deep enough and necessary.

All the above only applies if the dog doesn't get to it first and clean it up for me

Usually run under cold water tap and use Germolene and put plaster on if necessary........
