Police in Manchester

I have just seen pictures of armed police patrolling Albert Square Christmas market in Manchester.
Undercover plain clothes police are on duty there too.

It alarms some people as they think something is about to happen, which I can fully understand, it would put the wind up me too, I think.

The Superintendant says - "I want to assure people that we are strengthening protective security as an extra precaution and ti should make people feel more comfortable."

Isn't it a terrible sad reflection of the times though.

Re: Police in Manchester

I hear what you're saying Mups but I would definitely feel safer knowing the police were there in force

My son Aidan lives there now so it makes me feel better for him too

Hi

Read the other threads.

Armed Police are wrong they should not fire until people have been killed and then only to injure the person and bring them to trial.

Re: Police in Manchester

Couldn't get into work a few weeks ago because armed police stopped us going down the road to the office and made the staff wait inside find about 3 hours. Turned out to be a man from London holding his girlfriend hostage in a flat above the shops, good they came quickly and sorted it out but a nuisance I ended up not going home until after midnight because I started so late.

I'm not so confident about armed police - remember Jean Charles De Menendes??? - the police Superintendent in charge of that blunder was Cressida Dick - who is now Chief Constable of the Met police.

Whoever comes up with these stupid ideas?

Bloody laughable if it weren't so serious.

Re: Police in Manchester

Apparently my brother-in-law is in the tactical firearms unit of Strathclyde Police.

I'm not happy with anyone having guns on the street but if the Police need them whilst patrolling then so it must be.

Re: Police in Manchester

My three eldest grandchildren aged 7x2 and 6 are going to see Little Mix live in Birmingham next week, I hope there are plenty of armed police about as a deterrent to would be murdering terrorists.

My neice took my great neice to Sheffield last week to see the same live show and she was relieved to see the armed police there and everyone was 'frisked'.

Meg I had to look up Little Mix!

Think I'd need heavy bribing to take 6 and 7 year olds to see them!

Role models...??

I must be getting old (at last!!)
