Just who are we...?

There was a time in this country, USA, when folks stood up in mass to be heard and they were. Not any more!
It's all about greed & who can screw who the fastest and do it in such a way that we ask for more.
What is happening in Egypt give me pause.
No matter the outcome there, at least they have the balls to stand up for what they believe in.
The folks in this country have just let others run our lives for us.

Pass me my Abrams Tank an d we'll 'storm the barricades Dragon darlin'.

Arise ye starvlings from your slumbers,
Arise ye criminals of want,
For reasons in revolt now thunders
and at last ends the age of cant,
Now away with all your superstitions,
servile masses arise, arise,
we'll change forthwith the old conditions,
and spurn the dust to win the prize.

You hit the nail on the head there Dragon, the People (in most Countries) just lie back and let the powers that be walk all over them, and the more they get away with it their greed will push them further until they break the camels back. The People have lost their backbone and their will to protest, which suits the politicians fine.

Then we'd better keep the Red Flag flying on both sides of the pond -
Forward to the revolution brothers (and sisters)

The people's flag is deepest red,
It shrouded oft our martyred dead,
And ere their limbs grew stiff and cold,
Their hearts' blood dyed its ev'ry fold.

Then raise the scarlet standard high.
Within its shade we'll live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the red flag flying here.

etc. etc.

Re: Just who are we...?

Many of us here in the States are proud of the fact that we are "Baby Boomers"-those that stood up & said "Enough is Enough!"
We were heard & our country changed-some for the good and some for the not so good-but we created change!
But we forgot one thing-To teach our children to do the same. Instead we showered them with as much as we each could afford. Our children have heard & read of those days at Woodstock & others, but they don't know how it was done-That great movement for change!
I've been doing a rethink on if I should be proud of being a "Boomer" or sadden at the fact we didn't do enough for generations to follow.

Aerolor darlin' - sorry to disappoint, BUT with this current bunch in charge of the Labour Party - the 'S' word (Socialist) is now a dirty word. So there is an alternative version of the 'Red Flag'.

"The People's flag is palest pink,
Its not as red as people think,
I'm out of work and on the dole,
You can stick the red flag ...........

29th April - how about we hold a "Republican Socialist Party"???

Re: Just who are we...?

Is'nt this a catch 22 situation?

People vote others, who they think will be best for them, into power and when things get a bit rough they want them out so that they can vote someone else into power who the voters think will be best for them.

Is this the voters greed coming out!!!

Let the rich get richer, a rich man does spend his wealth at times thereby keeping the poor in work, without the rich the poor would be poorer still.

Welcome back Antibrown I think you have a point about voting governments in and out. I am not sure about the seriously rich spending their wealth though.

Yes, welcome back AB - As for the seriously rich, there are examples on both sides of the fence, and if I may I'll quote one within the same familly.

When he died the eldest son of the Marquis of Bristol inherited all his familly wealth, it was huge and included vast cattle ranges in Australia and property in the West Indies. What did he do? blew it all on drugs, parties, loose women and fast cars, he was total disgrace to the human race and thankfully died from his drug habit aged 40 something.

But, his younger brother inherited what was left which was not much and has been trying to create employment on the very small farm he runs, conserve the nature around it, and keep his familly together and his children educated.

I have no problem with people who are mega rich provided they invest their wealth wisely, the Cadbury familly did this and thousands of famillies around Bournville have benefitted from their sensible approach to wealth.

Losos matey, all very well until the Cadbury company sold out and the successor company moved the production abroad because the labour costs were cheaper elsewhere. I still say there is much to be said for nationalised industries under democratic control of the respective workforce.
