Does anyone else not own a TV?

I used to have one but eventually weeks and months would pass without my turning it on. So I threw it in a skip as it was an old one with no value. It certainly wasn't worth the licence fee; if there was no licence fee I still wouldn't bother.

I grew to hate the adverts and the programmes weren't much better. Nowadays I'll watch the odd bit of Netflix or You Tube but prefer reading and will never own another TV.

I have a radio built into various devices (phones, clock radio etc.) but don't listen to that, either.

Personally I don't think I could cope without a TV (what would I have to moan about?) but I know it's a growing trend to not watch programmes and just download or watch DVDs.

Mine goes on when I get up as I listen to radio through it, then we all have programmes we love. It's not unusual for us all to sit down to watch warehouse 13 or gardeners world, I love emmerdale my husband is a something to declare fan. No I can't imagine not having it.. Having said that we don't have one at the caravan so weekends and holidays are tv free and we don't miss it then.

Re: Does anyone else not own a TV?

I dont watch daytime TV, nor soaps. I much prefer factual programmes/documentaries. I hate reality type shows and the only comedy type that I watch are Mock the Week, HIGNY and QI. I avoid commercial TV and if there is a programme I fancy, then I record it, so that I can avoid the adverts. I do watch Netflix films.

I do enjoy TV in the evenings and would miss not having one, particularly as some days go by when I neither see nor speak to anyone.

A television is useful to have if you are looking after your grandchildren and they want to watch their DVDs.

Yes, we do other interesting things as well!

Re: Does anyone else not own a TV?

I have a couple of TVs but only watch the news "live".

I use a PVR to record the occasional TV film or series.

Sometimes I'll use the PVR to access a catchup service like iPlayer, My5 or All4.

More often than not I'll access those services on my PC (it's quicker) or download (mostly) documentaries from a specialist site to the PC and then "cast" them to my TV.

Additionally, I have a large library of DVD recordings (films, music, documentaries) which, again, I play on the PC but "cast" to my TV.

TV adverts are anathema to me .....

I found the adverts to be the single worst thing about live TV.

And the BBC weren't any better; they were always advertising themselves or upcoming programmes.

I record everything we want to watch or we pause for ten minutes at beginning of shows so we can then whizz through the adverts, technology is available we use it well.

Re: Does anyone else not own a TV?

We don't watch a lot of TV, we can normal find something else to do, I do watch Corrie and Emmerdale and the News and that's about it.

I counted once that there is normally 12 adverts in between the programmes and when they come on I silence the TV.
