Re: Compensation

No. But it helps if you genuinely deserve it.

Re: Compensation

It gives you closure. It's not about the money but about admitting wrong doing.

Re: Compensation

That all depends upon the person and the reason for the lawsuit.

Most lawsuits are driven by compensation...so I'd say it is all about the money.

Re: Compensation

I think in many cases a simple and heartfelt apology would be enough but people these days are told never to apologise because it means admitting you are at fault.

People have no other option but court and compensation when an apology at the start of the situation would have resolved it.

Re: Compensation

The irony in it all is the "no win no fee".

The majority of injury claims are paid by insurance companies.

When you take a solicitor on they take out an insurance policy in your name to cover costs should you lose.

Either way an insurance company will pay out....no wonder premiums go up every year.

Re: Compensation

Sorry....I haven't really answered the question.

No it's not the answer to everything but, in my mum's case it's totally necessary and right.

Her quality of life was taken by a member of staff at the local NHS hospital, the adaptations now needed to give her some of the basics we take for granted has cost around £35k and her basic care needs(care company visits 5 times per day) is running at about £100k to date.

Who can afford those sort of costs and why should they have to when a 3rd party was at fault?

Re: Compensation

Sadly that's all courts are set up to deal with, when my husband was bitten by a dog in his work all he wanted was an apology and to be assured they wouldn't allow it to happen again, but it was explained to us that only money could be dealt with by the courts so our only apology would be in pounds sterling. £3000 pounds of sorry he got. But a simple I am very sorry and I will make sure my dog can't bite anyone again was all he really wanted.
