No I wouldn't leave them up there I would however insist they pay all costs of rescue. That might make people think twice.

That could be extended to anyone that needs rescuing.....one risk too many?

Anyone with a disability that is thought to be a contributory factor.

The list is endless.

Maybe personal insurance cover?

Yes, I agree but I'm not so sure how such a policy could successfully be extended to all those who recklessly contribute to their predicament.

The blame in this case seems clear but there will be others where blame, or the extent of it, might be arguable.

In the end, people's safety has to come first before any financial aspects so I'm not sure what the answer is. It's similar to the argument that could be had over whether the NHS should provide free A&E treatment for accidents resulting from foolish or reckless behaviour.
