Long holidays

I never realised until grace went to the private school just how long private school holidays were, she's already been home a week and we still have 9 more to go !

Not moaning I love having her home but I'll never look at my school holidays as long again !

Re: Long holidays

School holidays were never long enough IMO. I always hated going back particularly in 1976 when I would be out every day until at least 10pm.

Re: Long holidays

I loved my holidays but we lived in an area where I'd only have my sisters to play with and they were much younger so didn't seem very interesting.

Re: Long holidays

I started to enjoy the longer school holidays once I was 15. There were plenty of jobs around-all land based from picking fruit and veg to mucking out pig pens. Spud picking paid extremely well but it was hard work. At least I had those lovely Italian women around me. Buongiorno Stefano-why you so skinny? We feed you.

Re: Long holidays

What amazes me is they are so draconian in the local schools about time off in term time but I don't see these long holidays hurting the private sector education. Something wrong there IMO

I don't know about Grace Julie but my 3 start the school day at 8 15 before the state schools and when the twins move up the Prep department in September their school day will be extended to 5pm and they will work Saturday mornings. They don't get one of the May bank holidays off either.
So all in all they are probably doing the same number of school hours per year as the state schools .

The long summer holidays make it possible for boarders to go home , some of the overseas children don't get home every holiday, they stay with a 'guardian' .

Re: Long holidays

Grace starts at 8am, has a 15 minute break at 11am then lunch hour at 12.30, another 15 minutes at 2pm and home at 3pm.

The littlies start at 9am and go home at 2.30pm they try to stagger times they leave so chaos in the road is less.

They have a before school club for any tinies dropped off with older kids and an after school club finishes at 5.45pm for working parents.

No boarders at this school, all day pupils, but they do have a family room for a parent and two children that can be rented during term time if they have a family too far away to do the day pupil thing. It's not been used while we've been going to the school but I'm told that works well too.

Boarding houses-that takes me back,Shakespeare,Culver and School. Many pupils back then had parents overseas. We were North,South East and West and County. County being boys who were a few miles outside Bedford, like me.
