Dark

We were all leaning towards the screen trying yo see action going on in the dark, muttering about programmes we couldn't see because they insist on scenes in the dark, when an advert came on for a new drama called in the dark, all of us had to laugh and say we'd not be bothering with that one

Re: Dark

I was watching an old episode of Upstairs Downstairs yesterday. Couldn't see a thing.

That's true Julie we did the same! The directors like to call it atmospheric, but we the viewers just tend to call it bloody annoying...

Re: Dark

It's the same with horror films. Why do so many homes in the USA not have electric lights? We see the occupants moving around in the dark all the time looking out for the monster! Just flick the light switch. Problem solved!
And if it's a vampire the light would kill it off. End of movie.

The only film I can think of which broke this trend was The Shining, filmed almost entirely in daylight. Still scary at the time.

I've even tried adjusting the brightness but it doesn't work.
Its the same when they start talking softly you feel you need to crank up the volume.
Maybe its just me but watched a comedy special on BBC iPlayer with Kevin Bridges. I know he has a strong Scottish accent but it was so strong, i think he was performing for a home crowd, I switched off after 5 minutes as I felt it needed subtitle's.

Oh yes the whispering that's another thing that's annoying. We turn it up to hear it then they have an advert or music for the titles and we are scrambling to turn it down before someone complains we have tv on too loud.

My wife puts the subtitles on everything which annoys me intensely. I find it distracts from following the actors' mannerisms if you have words at the bottom of the screen.

My husband moans at me when I do that too. But only way I can follow some programmes.

Mine too mate. I don't mind but when watching quizzes they often show the answer with the question.

Re: Dark

Watched In the Dark last night and it wasn't bad, although I'm getting a bit sick of dramas about child abduction. It seems to be the in thing with film makers at the moment.
