Thanks - and lucky you! Although I bet yours are more likely to be Common Hawker or maybe Migrant Hawker.

Re: Bugs and stuff

Great shots Mr Oy. that's weird because I have just spent half an hour trying to identify a large flying beastie that I saw in my garden. I think it might have been one of these. (Not my own photo)

It's a Broad Bodied Chaser. I would have liked to have taken a pic but it's difficult when you are running for your life.

Re: Bugs and stuff

Having said that, I didn't get a good look at it so it could well be the female black tailed skimmer as in you pic. It was about 3" long and 3" wing span.

Re: Bugs and stuff

At this time of year it could have been several things. The other one that looks about the same size and shape as the above, is the Four-spotted chaser.

That looks a bit thin, the one I saw was quite a chunky lad mainly dark with a lighter coloured tail and extremely fast. as you say, there are plenty of things around at the moment though.

Another great set. Do you use spot or centre?
I'm still trying to get to grips with the D800 and cannot get pin sharp with my settings.

Metering? Centre weighted. Has no bearing on sharpness of course.
